My Name is Kristian: An INFJ

My Name is Kristian: An INFJ

Aug 11, 2018

INFJ: Introversion, Intuition, Feeling, and Judgement. Over 20 years ago a company I worked for asked the employees to participate in a Myers Briggs assessment, and I spent years ignoring the actual evaluation. I had zero interest in someone classifying me into four letters. My feeling was that no test...

I Was That Boss Once: A Master Threat Manager

I Was That Boss Once: A Master Threat Manager

Feb 7, 2018

A Boss vs. Employee occurred in front of me the other day, spewing out of an office, into an open workspace. Classic. I have not only been here, but I was both the boss and the employee at different times. Brings back so many memories of how much I needed...

The Cycle of Productivity (and Sleep)

The Cycle of Productivity (and Sleep)

Feb 6, 2018

Throughout the years, my very own cycle of sleep will drive the hours within a day that I can anticipate being productive. Some months I sleep very little, waking at insane dark hours to jump into the office and start the day, other months a 1000 start is excellent, with...

The Extended Cost of Turnover

The Extended Cost of Turnover

Jan 5, 2018

A few years ago, I worked with a particularly out of touch CEO, one who experienced a high employee turnover during the previous 12-months. It still baffles me how proud that they were about cleaning house, and the thorough justification I received for each round of exits. While explaining how...

The Day My Journey Encountered a Detour

The Day My Journey Encountered a Detour

Jul 13, 2017

WOW. Facebook reminded me that 6-years ago, today, I caught a red-eye flight that ended up putting a detour in front of my vision of the future. The picture is from the day I departed, while I was running around sunny San Diego on my bicycle. Many friends didn't know...

My Mind is Always Solving Problems. Until It Can’t.

My Mind is Always Solving Problems. Until It Can’t.

Jul 10, 2017

The week started in Bangkok, finishing up an epic two-week trip that allowed me to explore new opportunities throughout Asia. Days before the flights back to San Francisco, I mapped out the perfect plan to transition back into the Pacific Time Zone with zero pain. There was the layover in...

I Was That Boss Once: I Ran Staff Meetings Like a Boss

I Was That Boss Once: I Ran Staff Meetings Like a Boss

Jan 20, 2017

One day I was faced with an audience that didn’t know who I was and I was taught a harsh lesson - I had been running ineffective meetings for years. For years, I had observed my bosses and proudly followed the meeting practices that they delivered with each meeting. I...

I Was That Boss Once: Knew Exactly What I Wanted

I Was That Boss Once: Knew Exactly What I Wanted

Aug 1, 2016

In my twenties, I was ready to conquer the world and thought I knew everything that came my way. Growing up in the family business, I had watched and absorbed business operations and customer service for years. I had seen everything possible working with my Dad, or so my young...

I Got Fired. Thank You For The Gift!

I Got Fired. Thank You For The Gift!

Jun 24, 2016

Not long ago I experienced what many would see as a setback, being asked to exit the building, leaving behind my position managing a Silicon Valley company. It was a quick 5-months and I have not put the company on my LinkedIn profile for a few reasons. Now, don’t get...

About Me

Learning about life and business comes through constantly challenging myself mentally and physically.

Growing up in Florida, I was always racing sailboats, which much like a business, a successful sailor is watching all variables, thinks on the spot, breeds good teamwork, and is a master communicator.

Later in life,  I set the goal to complete 5 Ironman competitions, Why did I choose to complete 5? You’ll have to ask me yourself.

Now I am addicted to my bicycle and completing the annual AIDS/Lifecycle ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles. 7-days of riding, totaling 545 miles and over 20,000 feet of climbing. There are lessons of trust, being in the moment, work-life balance, and excitement of being a part of a great community.
